Eurostud 2012

Now that we've been in class for almost an entire semester, it's time for a little politics. Of all of the people we've discussed in class, I want you to nominate the man/woman you feel should earn the title of Euro-Stud 2012. In your post you need to:

1. Nominate your person
2. Give detailed information as to why you believe your person should be crowned "Euro-Stud 2012". It's not enough simply to say, "Napoleon is a stud because he was short and sassy." You need to back it up with some historical insight.
3. No one person may be nominated more than twice per class. If your person has been nominated twice, you must choose someone else!

Think carefully, use your book to remind yourself of all of the people we've discussed, and submit by Friday, Dec. 14th at 10:00 p.m.

I Nominate Queen Elizabeth the I.

She is a Eurostud because she made sure she did what was best for England, by being a politique. Even if it was not in her best interest to follow through with what the country wanted. She made sure to find a middle way between Catholic and Protestant so she did not anger anyone.

The other amazing accomplishment she did was she found a way to show Europe that a women can be a successful ruler without a man at her side. She showed everyone that women matter equally as much as men.

I nominate Peter the Great as Eurostud 2012 because Peter was a person that never gave up on anything. Peter wasn't just called Peter the GREAT for no reason; Peter did many very good things during his time on his throne. Peter had done a substantial amout of land expansion. He took over both Black and the Baltic Sea ports. He made a very powerful Navy and a Army. Peter was a very smart person and loved to build things. Peter left Russia and went to Europe souly as a learning student in which he learned many thing. With the the things he learned from Europe and took back to Russia and applied it their. During the battle with Charles over the Baltic port he had started to build his own city named St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg was a very modern city. Many people died while building this city, but Peter did what it took. Peter moved te capital from Moscow to St. Petersburg not very easy. I do believe that Peter was a politque, because all the things he did he did them to better his country. Peter even had is only Male heir to the throne torchered because he thought that his son was not right to be the leader of Russia. Peter did a lot of good thing during his reign. He brought Russia out of its darkness and that's why I nominate him as Eurostud 2012

Im nominating Peter the Great for Eurostud 2012 because Peter had amazing ideas, he didn't just wait to do them he did them right away. He can turn things into stuff you thought wouldn't work, like he turned wale blubber into fuel. when he went into war with Ivan V, after he lost he didn't give up the first time he went back a few years and took back the victory. Peter was also very educated. He had an act of ship building and architecture. thus saying he built his own city moving the capitol of Moscow to St. Peters. so that is why I nominate Peter the Great for Eurostud 2012.

I'm nominating Queen Elzibeth the first because she did what was best for her country and did not worry about her own interists. She formed and shaped her country into a great country, she fought along side her country no matter what.Like when the Spanish Armada attacks England. She was a caring ruler and a loving ruler, she had the people's best intrest in her mind, like she put her own religion behind her country's religion and let the people have their power. She was wise, she made better decisions then other male rulers, which back then showed the women that they are no different from men, despite what society said back then. Queen Elizbeth the 1st should be Euro Stud of 2012!

I nominate Martin Luther for EURO-STUD 2012.

I nominate Martin Luther because he changed many people's perspectives on religion telling them that they don't have to listen to what the Church says because it is not what was written in the Scriptures. He defied the Church, got people to follow him, and also gave inspiration to those who had different beliefs as well which was the basis for why there are so many different Christian religions today.

I nominate Isaac Newton as Eurostud 2012. He helped develop the scientific revolution by explaining how planets moved and the motion of the bodies on earth. He named the central pull of everything gravity and explained how it works. He was a science genius who knew exactly what he was talking about. He proved many theories through actually experimentation instead of just making up some sort of idea and saying why it works based off of nothing.

I nominate Louis XIV of France due to his solidifying of an absolutist monarchy. To generate his absolute power, Louis created a new national army, moved the center of government to Versailles, strengthened Louis XIII’s Intendent system, and controlled the peasantry with the Corvée He declared himself as outright head of state in his famous quote “L’état, Cést moi!” (“I am the state!”). He also halted the Frondé in 1648. In doing these things, Louis XIV set an example for many other monarchs who longed for such control. Sovereigns such as Peter the Great of Russia and Frederick I of Prussia worked their entire reigns to achieve the level of supremacy that Louis had obtained.

I nominate Leonardo Da Vinci as Eurostud 2012. Leonardo was a painter, architect, sculptor, scientist, inventor, engineer and many other things. He made some of the most important contributions to European society in the 15th century that still go unmatched today. His paintings of the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper are the two most popular paintings in the world for a reason. Leonardo was also an inventor. He came up with military machinery that were way past his time period. His ideas are so beyond his time that some are still used today. Leonardo created a tank, cluster bombs, a glider, and many more. Leonardo's inventions, paintings, philosophies, and ideas were a major contribution to European history, and still are important today. That is why i nominate Leonardo Da Vinci as Eurostud 2012

I would like to niminate Galileo Galilei for Eurostud. He contributed so much to the scientific revolution and his discoveries changed the world forever. He was the first to point a telescope toward the skies and proved the heliocentric theory.Galileo used the telescope to prove that the moon was not flat and was full of craters. He not only made discoveries , he also invented many gadgets to help better society and efficiency. He invented a thermometer, a compass, and a pendulum clock. Also, he is given credit for a type of microscope. Galileo should definately be elected Eurostud because he has brought our world and technology to a new level and opened new doors for discovery. There should be no debate, Galileo has done much more than others and bad the biggest impact on not only European history, but the world's history. His name has been printed in the world's history book. For the reasons listed above and many others, I nominate Galileo Galilei as Eurostud 2012.

I nominate Michealangelo as Eurostud 2012 because he was such a great person. His art really changed people's perspective. What he did showed people how great of an artist he was. To me, he gave the meaning of art. Even though he didn't want to, he was still the best! I got a little crush goin on (; lol.
